Buying Hot-Gas-Path Parts for Mitsubishi 701B and 701D

Heavy hardware, written specification

A 701 blade is expensive to get wrong. A page that only lists the original-equipment maker is not a specification. Split 701B from 701D, then write the stage. Mass and frequency are part of the buy on a large rotating row. Lifting and packing are part of the delivery, not an afterthought. Below are three plant-style cases — B versus D, a silent mix on stage 1, and unknown cooling — then the crane on site, then a filled request. If the row is a late upgrade with unknown cooling, we say so and stop.

Request per serial: 701B or 701D, stage, bucket or vane, coating history, hours. Fifty-hertz and sixty-hertz rumours do not replace the plate. The machine family splits as 701B and 701D. Use the letters on the plate, not a story about the grid. Hot isostatic pressing can help large blades when the alloy and remaining wall allow it. The gates are the same as on other nickel rows. Site crane limits belong on the request so the crate is not the first time anyone thinks about lifting.

Large-frame first-stage gas-turbine blades packed in a crate
On a large rotating row, a matched mass and a written frequency note are part of interchange, not extras.

Case 1 — Store said Mitsubishi 701, the plate is 701D

The two variants share a family name and refuse to share a shopping list. A store that bins everything under Mitsubishi 701 will send the wrong root to a large disc. Write B or D as the plate shows it. Then write the stage. Then write bucket or vane. If the plate is hard to read, photograph it in daylight and send the serial. Fifty-hertz and sixty-hertz rumours do not replace the plate. Euroturbine will not guess B or D from the megawatt rumour on site.

A combined-cycle unit on 701D opens a hot-gas-path outage. Purchasing writes Mitsubishi 701 blades. The store pulls a 701B root because that bin was closer. Euroturbine writes 701D from the plate photograph and leaves the 701B metal off the quote. HIP — hot isostatic pressing — can still sit on a 701D line if alloy and remaining wall allow it. That is a later sentence, after B and D are split.

Case 2 — Silent mix on a first-stage 701 row

A first-stage 701 blade is heavy enough that a silent mix in the row shows up as a vibration conversation. If OEM and aftermarket metal will share the row, engineering writes mass and frequency before the mix is allowed. That is the same discipline as on other large E-class machines. It is not optional because the name on the plate is Mitsubishi. Euroturbine would rather hold a blade than ship one whose mass was never written down.

The same 701D unit has fifty-nine OEM first-stage buckets and one scrap. The request says aftermarket spare, no mass note. Euroturbine stops the ship until mass and frequency are written. If you cannot accept that paper, the honest job is a matched set, not one hopeful spare in a large disc.

Case 3 — Late upgrade, cooling unknown: do not price a pour yet

Aftermarket is the right door on documented rows where cooling holes can be verified and airflow-tested. A late upgrade with an unknown cooling map is a stop. We will say so in writing. A crate of almost-right metal on a 701 first stage is an expensive way to learn that the holes were wrong. If you only have a scrap airfoil, that sample is how we recover the map. If the sample is too blocked or too thin, we ask for another serial or we decline the pour.

The 701D combined-cycle unit had a late first-stage upgrade. No cooling drawing remains. The only sample is blocked and thin. Euroturbine writes a written no on new-make and asks for a better serial or an OEM path. We will not pour a pretty, wrong hole pattern into that disc.

Lifting, packing and the crane on site

Large-frame blades need a packing and lifting plan, not a cardboard afterthought. Write the site crane limit on the request. Write how the crate will be received. Euroturbine treats packing as part of delivery on this frame, the same way we treat CMM — coordinate measuring — as part of the metal. A blade that arrives undamaged and still does not match the cooling map is a different failure. A blade that arrives damaged because nobody wrote the lift is a preventable one.

A 701D combined-cycle site has a crane limit that will not take the crate the last vendor used. The request that only said Mitsubishi blades never mentioned the hook. Euroturbine writes the lift and the crate as part of the quote. A crate that cannot be received is not a completed order.

What a complete 701 request looks like

Nameplate photograph: 701B or 701D as the letters show — not a family nickname and not a grid-frequency story. Per serial: stage, bucket or vane, OEM number, quantity, hours, coating history. Job: new-make, repair, or HIP if alloy and remaining wall allow it. If OEM and aftermarket will share a rotating row, say so and ask for a mass and frequency note. Cooling drawings or a scrap airfoil including the root if the row is cooled. Site crane limit and how the crate will be received. Photographs of the plate, the root, both sides. Euroturbine will mark what is aftermarket-defensible, and will stop in writing when cooling cannot be verified.

Get the B or D right first. Everything else on a 701 request is expensive detail that still has to be written.

Frequently asked questions

Does 50 Hz versus 60 Hz change the blade?

The machine family splits as 701B and 701D. Use the plate, not a rumour about grid frequency. If someone on site insists the grid decides the airfoil, send the plate photograph and let engineering close the argument.

Can you HIP 701 blades?

If the alloy and remaining wall allow it. Large blades still follow the same hot-isostatic-pressing gates as other nickel rows. Hours and the last inspection report travel with the request.

Do we need to mention the crane on the request?

Yes. Write the site limit. Packing and lifting are part of delivery on this frame. A crate that cannot be received is not a completed order.
